Whoopi Goldberg: Trump needs to ‘shut up’ about California wildfires

Make sure to let us know what you think... we now have comments turned ON below the article!

President Donald Trump sparked outraged reactions on the left when he responded to the devastating fires in California by suggesting the state needed to do a better job of managing forest land, such as removing the dead trees and underbrush that serve as fuel for wildfires.

Trump reiterated that message somewhat in-artfully during a visit to California to witness the devastation first hand — he mentioned “raking” the forest, i.e. clearing out undergrowth — but the snarky liberal women of ABC’s The View simply couldn’t abide by the message of state responsibility Trump had delivered and, as usual, attacked the messenger for the manner in which he had delivered the message. “What I need [Trump] to do is … Shut. Up … And I try not to be, you know, I try not to be too rude, but you know what, people lost their lives. Families lost their homes. This is not a joke,” co-host Whoopi Goldberg raged.

OMG, he said “raking!”

During his visit to the now nearly non-existent town of Paradise over the weekend, Trump said, “I was with the president of Finland and he said we’re a forest nation. He called it a forest nation. And they spend a lot of time on raking and cleaning and doing things and they don’t have any problem and when it is, it’s a very small problem.”

Incensed, co-host Whoopi Goldberg said, “Actually, as you probably know, Finland has a very different atmosphere. They get rain periodically. California, it doesn’t rain much so raking really isn’t going to help. You know, just being realistic.”

“And the Finnish president said he never suggested raking, you know,” she continued. “I don’t know why the new guy just won’t acknowledge that if you don’t have any rain — raking everything out is fine — but if everything is dry and someone drops a cigarette or someone lights the fire or, you know, some spark happens, stuff’s going to burn. Raking it is not going to really help. So I would like him to stop with this raking stuff.”

Co-host Joy Behar snarkily chimed in: “When did he become an expert on forest fires? Who is he, Smokey the Bear all of a sudden?”

“It’s amazing, I have some really good friends that are from Finland and the Finns are having such a ball with this,” said co-host Sonny Hostin. “There are memes online with them vacuuming the forest. My friend is sending me all this stuff, but in a sense, we’ve almost become the laughing stock in so many places … or he is … and it’s just so embarrassing because if you know anything about Finland, it rains like half the year. It’s really cold.”

Neither of the “conservative” co-hosts of the program — Abby Huntsman and Meghan McCain — pushed back, instead simply appearing to agree that it was unacceptable for the president to discuss ways California could mitigate its fire risk with proper wildland management.

Just “stop talking” about California

“Raking? I’m sorry. Raking is not funny to people in California. This is not cute, you know, this idea,” Goldberg continued. “And if you don’t know this, if you really don’t know this, man, everybody needs to start rethinking what you’re saying and how you’re saying it because you sure don’t give a damn about the people in California.”

After Behar pointed out that Trump had mistakenly referred to the destroyed town of Paradise as “Pleasure,” Goldberg raged, “I just want him to stop talking in California. People are dying. People died. People lost everything. Listen, if you’re not going to help stay home.”

Except — Trump is helping and has helped, by releasing emergency federal funds to help address the crisis and by reminding California’s leaders that their restrictive environmentalist policies need to be adjusted, which will help to prevent or mitigate future wildfires.

Too bad the ladies of The View are unable to see that past their blind hatred of all things Trump.

For residents of dry, fire-prone areas, CAL FIRE recommends “removing dead branches, leaves and needles” as part of maintaining a defensible space. Learn more here.
