President Donald Trump traveled to Buenos Aires, Argentina, on Friday for the G-20 economic summit, where he was scheduled to meet on the sidelines with Russian President Vladimir Putin. That meeting was canceled at the last moment however, because of recent aggressive Russian behavior toward Ukraine.
However, the liberal media wildly speculated that the meeting had instead canceled due to recent developments in the Robert Mueller investigation, which prompted White House press secretary Sarah Sanders to release a statement clarifying the administration’s position on both the cancellation and the investigation.
U.S.-Russian relations damaged
Business Insider reported that, aside from Sanders reiterating that Russian actions against Ukraine were the reason for the cancellation of the meeting, she also expressed the administration’s belief that the never-ending “witch hunt hoax” Trump/Russia collusion investigation had caused damage to U.S.-Russian relations.
Sanders said in a statement, “The Russian Witch Hunt Hoax, which is hopefully now nearing an end, is doing very well. Unfortunately, it probably does undermine our relationship with Russia.”
“However, the reason for our canceled meeting is Ukraine. Hopefully, that will be resolved soon so that productive conversations can begin,” she added.
Media focused on Russia investigation
The liberal media, incessantly focused on the Trump/Russia investigation as they are, assumed the cancellation of the Trump/Putin meeting might be related to a recent development in the Mueller investigation.
That development was a new plea deal from former Trump attorney Michael Cohen, who admitted to having lied to Congress and investigators about details of a proposed business deal for the Trump Organization to build a hotel in Moscow, a deal that never materialized further than initial talks.
Nevertheless, the anti-Trump media seized on the “news” — which had really already been known and covered previously — as evidence of supposed “collusion” and prematurely shouted for the umpteenth time, “We’ve got him now!”
Unfortunately, the media coverage seemed to frame the mere notion of a businessman seeking a wholly legitimate business deal in a foreign nation like Russia as some sort of criminal act and conspiracy, which most certainly is not the case.
It was that sort of media coverage — framing perfectly legitimate business deals that never fully materialized as evidence of criminal misdeeds — that Sanders likely had in mind when she suggested that the Mueller-led Russia investigation — and the media’s stark focus on it — had been detrimental to U.S.-Russian relations.
Indeed, the media has worked themselves and an untold number of Trump-hating liberals into such a frenzy that any sort of mention of Trump and Russia in the same sentence bring about insane accusations and reactions, which has hampered the Trump administration’s efforts at building a civil working relationship with a powerful rival.

The relationship between the U.S. and Russia has been undermined by the constant turmoil of the liberal media’s reports on the Mueller Russia probe, and unfortunately those relations are unlikely to improve much as long as the media and Mueller continue to do their worst at making every Trump contact with Russia — innocuous, official or otherwise — into evidence of a criminal conspiracy.
