Rudy Giuliani criticizes Mueller’s ‘impaired cognition’

Former special counsel Robert Mueller’s painful performance before Congress on Wednesday has left some questioning his mental fitness.

Among them is former New York mayor Rudy Giuliani, currently a member of President Donald Trump’s legal team, who criticized “Mueller’s impaired cognition” on Thursday.

Rudy’s reaction

“An issue raised by Mueller’s impaired cognition,” Giuliani wrote on Twitter. “Why didn’t any of the 18 Angry Democrats advise him to quit.”

Giuliani then went on the list the things that Mueller didn’t know, while implying that the investigation he led was unbridled and partisan.

“He didn’t know Fusion GPS, what he had written about collusion/conspiracy or effect of DOJ policy on his obstruction decision,” Giuliani continued. “They sure trampled rights without supervision.”

Recalling the lack of recall

On Wednesday, Robert Mueller testified on Capitol Hill before the House Judiciary and Intelligence committees regarding the investigations he led into Russia’s interference in the 2016 presidential election and collusion between Russia and Donald Trump’s campaign.

Even if you were only able to tune in for a short period of time, chances are that you saw a rather feeble looking Mueller struggling to remember what he had written in his report, asking for questions to be repeated, stumbling through answers, or searching the room for the congressman or woman making the inquiries. Mueller’s lack of strength and vitality was only highlighted by the vociferous members of the committee, who acted as his foil.

Mueller’s wan performance has dumbfounded many. Take his insistence that he was “not familiar” with Fusion GPS, the opposition research firm that is responsible for the dossier of Christopher Steele — which was used as the basis to obtain FISA warrants to spy on Trump’s campaign.

What kind of investigation was Mueller leading, if he did not even know about this company? It sure starts to look like the “witch hunt” that President Trump is always tweeting about.

Special Counsel “In Name Only”?

While some, like Giuliani, are questioning Mueller’s health and fitness, others expressed pity and outrage, suggesting that he was only a pawn in the much larger effort led by powerful Democrats to get rid of Trump.

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC), for example, said during an interview on Fox after the hearing, “They used this man.” He added that “the Mueller report is in name only,” and that “I had more to do with the Mueller report than probably he did.”

But regardless of whether you pity Mueller or question his fitness, one thing is for sure: his testimony certainly did not further the Democrats’ plan to get President Trump impeached.
