‘Miss Michigan’ stripped of title over ‘insensitive’ social media posts

It has become increasingly clear that progressive leftists hold the power in countless sectors of American society, and they have consistently used that power to discriminate against Americans who hold conservative views or who openly support President Donald Trump.

The latest victim of apparent discrimination by liberals is University of Michigan student Kathy Zhu, who was stripped of her “Miss Michigan” title this week by the governing body of the Miss World America beauty pageant, Breitbart reported.

Stripped of her title

Zhu reportedly took to Twitter on Thursday after a back-and-forth she had with a top official from the Miss World America organization.

She said she was informed by the official that some of her social media posts had been deemed “offensive, insensitive, and inappropriate,” and in violation of the organization’s standards and social media usage policy.

But Zhu, a legal immigrant from China who became a U.S. citizen, argued that there was nothing about her posts that could be construed as “offensive, insensitive, and inappropriate” — save for her openly expressed conservative ideals and support for the president.

Tweets and emails and texts and screenshots

“Miss World America’s State/National/Chief Director accused me of being racist, Islamaphobic, and insensitive,” Zhu tweeted on Thursday. “They stripped me of my Miss Michigan title due to my refusal to try on a hijab in 2018, my tweet about black on black gun violence, and ‘insensitive’ statistical tweets.”

Zhu attached to her tweet screenshots of an email she received from Miss World America’s Laurie DeJack, as well as the email she sent in response. Zhu also shared a series of text messages in a follow-up tweet.

In a separate tweet, Zhu explained: “Someone called me an [I]slamophobic for not wanting to put on a hijab. Someone called me a racist because I recognize that black people kill more blacks than police do. Good luck to those who are as gullible as this.”

Legal action coming?

Breitbart noted that the supposedly “Islamophobic” incident with a hijab occurred in 2018, when the University of Michigan Muslim Student Association held an event on campus for “World Hijab Day.” The group encouraged non-Muslim students to try on a hijab, an offer that Zhu declined due to her belief that hijabs are a symbol of Islamic oppression of women.

As for her purportedly “racist” social media posts, those were little more than Zhu posting factual statistics comparing the rates of black-on-black crime with those of blacks killed by police officers, Zhu asserted.

To be sure, Miss World America is a private organization that can set its own social media usage policies and strip titles from those who violate that policy. That said, if a neutral arbiter were to determine that Zhu’s social media posts didn’t violate the organization’s standards, and her title was stripped for other (perhaps political) reasons, she may very well have a discrimination case against Miss World America.
