Trump suggests deploying military as ‘human wall’ at border, if necessary

Trump reiterated the need for a border wall for the umpteenth time Tuesday. Ahead of his State of the Union address, Trump suggested in a tweet that, if necessary, he will deploy the U.S. military to the border as a “human wall.”

“Tremendous numbers of people are coming up through Mexico in the hopes of flooding our Southern Border. We have sent additional military. We will build a Human Wall if necessary. If we had a real Wall, this would be a non-event!” Trump tweeted.

SOTU border wall talk

It was a not-so-subtle shot at the obstructionist Democrats who have refused to negotiate with him on border security, but it wasn’t his only border-related shot at them Tuesday.

Trump spoke of the wall numerous times during his State of the Union address several times in ways that were a direct challenge to his opposition, a challenge to drop their partisanship and work together with their Republican colleagues.

He spoke of how effective walls are where erected, the impact illegal immigration has on American communities and economy, and the sort of crime and criminals that are prevented from easily entering the country where walls are present.

He even called out the political elite on their hypocritical support for open borders.

“No issue better illustrates the divide between America’s working class and America’s political class than illegal immigration. Wealthy politicians and donors push for open borders while living their lives behind walls, and gates, and guards,” Trump said.

“I will get it built.”

President Trump also reaffirmed once again that he is committed to getting a border wall built, and spoke of the current compromise he hopes to reach with Democrats.

That potential deal “includes humanitarian assistance, more law enforcement, drug detection at our ports, closing loopholes that enable child smuggling, and plans for a new physical barrier, or wall, to secure the vast areas between our ports of entry.”

Then came the kicker: “In the past, most of the people in this room voted for a wall, but the proper wall never got built. I will get it built.”

To all the doubters, Trump has reminded everyone once again that he is prioritizing the wall.

Whether the Democrats cooperate or not, the border will be secured, one way or another.
