Meghan McCain tweets heartwarming Fathers Day message to ‘greatest father in the world’

Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) has been away from Washington for several months receiving treatment for an aggressive and rare form of brain cancer known as glioblastoma.

The survival rate for this form of the disease is incredibly low, which makes the Fathers Day tweet sent out by the senator’s daughter, Meghan McCain, on Sunday all the more tragic.

A heartwarming tweet

Meghan McCain’s tweet included an undated picture of her and her father out for a hike alongside her message.

But it is unclear when exactly that photo was taken.

In an interview in May with the Washington Examiner, Sen. McCain had stated: “I know this is a very vicious disease. I greet every day with gratitude, and I will continue to do everything that I can but I’m also very aware that none of us live forever.”

He added: “I’m confident, and I’m happy, and I’m very grateful for the life I’ve been able to lead, and I greet the future with joy.”

The 81-year-old McCain was diagnosed with the deadly cancer in July 2017 and has been resting and receiving treatment at home in Arizona since December 2017.

Sadly, this could very well be the final Father’s Day celebrated together by the senator and his daughter, which casts her tweet with him in an entirely different light.

Making a name for himself

The Republican senator with a history of being a “maverick” in the party may not always be the most popular member of Congress, and he certainly has angered a significant part of the GOP base via his long-standing feud with candidate-turned-President Donald Trump.

That said, few wish the senator ill will and many still hold respect for him and his past history as a prisoner of war during the conflict in Vietnam.

All we can really do is pray that his and his family’s pain and suffering will come to a peaceful conclusion when the time is right.
