Meghan McCain credits ‘Trump’s America’ for her decision to marry husband Ben Domenech

It seems that President Donald Trump’s haters will find a way to hold him responsible for everything that has happened in their lives since he announced his candidacy — including, apparently, their marriages.

Meghan McCain, one of the hosts of ABC’s The View, told her co-hosts on Friday’s episode of the daytime show that Trump’s ascension into American politics was one of the primary reasons that she was so quick to get married to her husband, Ben Domenech of The Federalist.

Unintended consequences

The View hosts were discussing the new “trend” among celebrities to fling themselves into whirlwind romances that soon lead to brief engagements and marriages when McCain chimed in that she felt her own relationship fell into that category — apparently, because of Trump.

“I have this theory, because I got together with my husband very quickly — which I never do — and we moved in very quickly,” McCain said.

“I have this theory that Trump’s America makes everything more intense and heightened,” she said, “because we’re always talking about the threat of nuclear war and we want to be nurtured by each other.”

She went on to allege: “For real, I would not have gotten together with my husband if Trump didn’t become the nominee and weren’t running for president. A hundred percent.”

She added: “At the [Republican National Convention] when he accepted the nomination, I cried and cried and cried to [Domenech] in an SUV back to our hotel room, and he got me P.F. Chang’s and I thought, maybe I can marry this guy, and he was telling me why history will survive, we were up till four in the morning talking about bad ex-presidents while eating P.F. Chang’s.”

“Thank you, I guess”

McCain went on to sarcastically address the president, saying, “Thank you, I guess, for helping me get married.”

McCain’s co-host Joy Behar suggested there may be something to McCain’s theory, as she shared how she had quickly married her first husband in the wake of the assassination of John F. Kennedy.

Behar said she shared some of the same, “OMG, the world is falling apart, let’s cling to each other,” fears at the time.

McCain and Domenech were married near the end of 2017, just a few short months after it was announced that her father, Republican Sen. John McCain (AZ) was suffering from brain cancer.

We’ll have to wait and see if Trump will also be to blame if their relationship heads down a rocky road in the future.
