Ruth Bader Ginsburg wears flashy gift from supporter in Supreme Court group photo

All nine justices of the U.S. Supreme Court recently got together for a routine “class photo” style group portrait, and great attention was paid to a flashy necklace and collar worn by liberal icon Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

Ginsburg is known for sometimes sending subtle messages via the neckwear she adorns, and while some attempted to divine the hidden meaning behind the latest necklace, it was later revealed that the necklace had been a gift to the famed jurist from an ardent supporter, and the message was one of admiration and respect for a mentor and role model.

In honor of RBG

Town & Country magazine reported that the metallic collar was initially purchased by a Los Angeles-based attorney named Susan Hyman, who obtained the limited edition Silver Pegasus necklace from Stella and Dot — a brand Hyman sometimes works for — to wear to a viewing of a documentary about Ginsburg titled RBG.

“I wore the necklace in tribute to RBG because it reminded me of some of the ‘dissent collars’ she has worn,” explained Hyman. Ginsburg has admitted in the past that she wears certain necklaces and collars for specific occasions like the announcement of a majority or dissenting opinion she has taken part in.

Afterward, Hyman felt inspired to make a “leap of faith” and send the necklace to Ginsburg, “in appreciation for her pioneering life’s work to advance women’s equality. I wrote that I hoped she would wear it with pride and joy.”

Hyman added that the necklace “reminds me of something a warrior princess like Wonder Woman would wear as armor into battle. It projects strength, confidence, and fearlessness.”

Surprise ‘thank you’ note

Much to her surprise, Hyman soon discovered that Ginsburg had not only worn the gifted necklace for the “class photo,” but had also sent “a lovely handwritten note from RBG on her official stationery. She warmly offered ‘a thousand thanks’ and expressed delight at her ‘surprise package.’ She described the necklace as ‘exquisite’ and promised to wear it on or off the bench.”

Hyman shared her exciting news with a roughly 11,000-strong Facebook group of attorney mothers that she is a part of, and it was an absolute hit with all of her friends and fellow lawyer moms.

“We feel that RBG was giving us a secret wink and nod in solidarity with us, and an appeal to keep on fighting for women’s equality. She is one of us!” Hyman exclaimed.

“In my community of lawyer moms, RBG is larger than life,” Hyman added. “She is revered as a patron saint, Wonder Woman, the original and ultimate lawyer mom… We collect RBG action figures, mugs, and ‘dissent collar’ pins … A favorite mantra is ‘WWRBGD’—What Would RBG Do?”

Ginsburg is obvious adored by liberal women, at least one of whom as willing to send an expensive piece of jewelry to the justice as an unsolicited gift.

How heartbreaking it will be for her and other RGB supporters the day that President Donald Trump gets to choose her (conservative) replacement.
