Trump: First lady “saw the danger” first-hand during visit to border

First lady Melania Trump recently traveled to Arizona’s southern border to survey the illegal immigration situation for herself, the second such trip she has made in recent weeks.

President Donald Trump revealed during an interview aired over the weekend that the first lady was “saddened by the plight of the people” but also “saw the danger” at the border.

The New York Post reported on those and other remarks from the president during an interview with Fox Business host Maria Bartiromo that aired on Sunday.

“She came home and told me a couple of things. She said it’s a very sad situation, very, very sad,” Trump recalled of the first lady’s visits to the border. “She was really impressed with Border Patrol, how professional they were. She came and said that, and she was really saddened by the plight of people.”

Trump described his wife as having a “very big heart” toward the detained illegal immigrants, and stated, “But she was so strong on how professional the Border Patrol, the agents, the law enforcement is along the border. She couldn’t believe it.”

“And she saw the danger,” the president added. “She saw the … you look at it. It just looks like danger. In the meantime, we have to have strong border protection.”

Trump then addressed the recent liberal rallies in support of illegal immigrant families and increasingly vocal demands from elected Democrats to abolish ICE and essentially leave our borders undefended and unguarded, an astounding move which is bad for the country but ironically could aid him politically.

“You get rid of ICE you’re going to have a country that you’re going to be afraid to walk out of your house,” stated Trump. “I love that issue if they’re going to actually do that.”

“Between Maxine Waters and Nancy Pelosi and getting rid of ICE and having open borders … all it’s going to do is lead to massive, massive crime. That’s going to be their platform, open borders, which equals crime,” he said, referencing two of his more outspoken detractors and the left-ward slide of the Democrat Party more generally.

“I think they’ll never win another election,” Trump added. “So I’m actually quite happy about it.”

President Trump has made no secret of the fact that he is married to an incredibly caring and kind yet safety-minded woman with a “very big heart” that he relies upon for advice and counsel and support.

There is little doubt that what she witnessed at the border, both good and bad, were reported back to Trump following her visits and will likely inform to a degree his future decisions on matters related to the border and enforcement of immigration laws.
