More than 43,000 people have died due to COVID-19 in the US. 20% or more than 7,300 of those deaths have been in nursing homes or long-term care facilities. Most of those deaths have occurred in New York and New Jersey.
The first indicator that nursing homes were vulnerable came from the state of Washington at the Life Care Center in Kirkland in February. 37 people associated with the center have died and 129 people had the virus by March 18th. 81 of that number were residents, along with 34 staff members. That facility has since been disqualified by Medicare and is being fined daily.
Many of the nation’s nursing homes have been cited for poor infection control even before COVID-19 appeared on our shores, making the elderly and vulnerable population subject to respiratory, urinary tract, and digestive tract infections.
Many of the facilities that are experiencing coronavirus deaths already had infractions. According to the Washington Post:
Among the facilities with infection-control infractions: the Pleasant View Nursing Home in Mount Airy, Md., where 24 people had died as of Thursday; the Canterbury Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center near Richmond, with 49 deaths as of Thursday; and the Brighton Rehabilitation and Wellness Center in southwestern Pennsylvania, where officials have warned that all 750 residents and staff members could be infected.
No visitors allowed
If any of you have or have had a loved one in a nursing home, you know that visiting often and advocating for that person is necessary to secure the kind of care your loved one needs. In fact, it might be the difference between life and death for them.
But visiting is not allowed at most if not all nursing homes in an effort to slow or stop the spread of the coronavirus, leaving family members in a state of anxiety about the well-being of their loved ones.
Facilities like the King David Center in Manhattan, provide ways to connect with relatives using technology. Each resident has access to a tablet for entertainment but also communications with family and friends. Family members can call and request appointments to visit with their relatives. This might help some people, but not all elderly people in nursing homes will know how to use this technology.
But technology notwithstanding, very few people have been able to say goodbye to their dying loved ones.

Yes, and what is the normal death rate of these places before the covid-19 crisis? I would venture to guess that it was maybe 4 or 5 less per institution, if that. These panic mongers are blowing things out of proportion just to ruin our economy and our Republic. I am so sick and tired of the left releasing these ridiculous numbers without any legitimate comparisions just to scare the public who is so ridicuously stupid to keep falling for these inflated numbers. I read the number that were in for California State for the first 3 months after the virus hit and guess what? There were 5 additional deaths in the entire state per month. Get that? Per month in the entire State of California. And do not forget that they counted all the deaths attributed to covid, even when the patients had underlying and very severe ailments that could have had been the true cause of the deaths.

No, of course not but they had other ailments and the staff, especially in the beginning were not aware of or prepared for the onset of the virus and hence, were not handling the people properly.

NO ONE is EXPENDABLE! when a loved one dies NO MATTER what age they are mourned ….I pray that they had a chance to accept Jesus as their Savior ! then they are in the presence of God worshipping and praising!! this is a time to reflect and accept Jesus as your SAVIOR !!!!

Did you really read the head lines?? 7300 old people die in the whole Nation. Just how many people are they in the USA and what is the % related to the whole? Heck, By count 20833 die each month from medial malpractices. & 0ver 8333 are murder with FDA approve poison high price drugs. Yet this is never mentioned, WHY???? I am 91 year old veteran and seen it over and over again how medicos prescribe deadly drugs and people swallow them, no question ask. Over the years Doctor have prescribed drugs to me and the first question is what is drug for and it side effects, ending that I did not take the poisons which kills my immune system and I still am here. It is best to question, question and doubt the so called fake news media and their headlines for 90% of the time they are faultiest or outright lies.

Nursing homes are the worse, even in good times. I had my mother in 3 different one’s. Staff does not take care of them, they don’t care if they eat or not. Worse thing a person could do to someone is put them in a nursing home. I would rather die than to to one.

It is sad when anyone dies but we are all going to die some day. It is worse if they die of poor care because someone is making a millions off of it. I wonder how many nursing home deaths there are in a normal year. I know we have around 2.5 million die every year in this country. On the other hand we have over 4 million births. So we get a virus from China which was pretty good at containing it in their country while letting infected people go to all parts of the world. Which makes you ask was this a bio attack or test attack. The other question is would we have done better if all the emergency supply would have been replenished. I guess if our elected officials were not spending so much on pork, and things they will never be able to change, we would have enough money for the important things.

I live by myself and I hear from two dear friends every day and have four children who don’t live near me but contact me on a fairly regular basis. I am healthy but I resent being on the death list because I am old even though I am healthy, i exercise regularly, eat sensibly and watch my weight. I do the right things for longevity but maybe exercise a good nutrition are a waste of time.; because what happens is a person lives a long live and runs out of money and his friends die. Then one is really alone.
The fact is we are all going to die so lets get on with life and when the good Lord decides he wants us we’ll die.
GOD sees all, knows all, and HE has all files of each person to be judged.

I have visited family member in nursing home many times in recent years. I have proven many times…by using unpredictable schedule…that staff is doing very little other than what is absolutely required for the residents: nurses give the meds, the CNAs sometimes bathe and dress the residents and sometimes offer food to them. I know this because I go at times and SEE what they have or have not done! This nursing home is owned by our state!!! It has been in lockdown since March 13. Five staff and one resident has tested positive for virus. Because absolutely no family is allowed in the facility, it is very probable that the residents are getting less care than what would be normal…which is not good!!! My loved one’s medical needs make it impossible for him to be cared for at home! The state is being paid dearly for his care…yet the state government has not listened to complaints that have been made even prior to this crisis. I urge our federal government to take a strong look at what is happening…if these nursing homes were operating with a stricter protocol, much of this would not be happening. Sure, these people will die in one way or another, but their deaths need to be as God chooses with their families by their sides…our society does not need to subject them to life threatening situations where they will die alone!!! I beg all of you to ‘wake up’ to what is happening!!!
