Maxine Waters claims Trump has set her up ‘to be killed’

Rep. Maxine Waters, the California Democrat who has spent the last two years inciting her supporters to harass President Donald Trump and his allies, is now worried that her potentially dangerous tactics are being used against her.

Waters asserted on Wednesday that President Trump had set her and others up “to be killed” in a hypothetical “civil war” by virtue of his “dog-whistling to the white supremacists, the KKK,” and what she calls, “the dangerous people.”

Trump’s “dangerous” rhetoric

The congresswoman’s comments came during an interview with MSNBC’s Ali Velshi — though the real story is Waters’ complete lack of self-awareness and stunning display of hypocrisy.

“I mean, I can’t go to the grocery store anymore by myself. I have to pay for security all the time. I can’t move around the country without security,” Waters told Velshi, according to RealClearPolitics. “He is setting some of us up to be killed. I have death threats constantly. There are a number of people who have been convicted for threatening to kill me.”

The conversation spurred from Velshi pressing Waters on Trump’s recent remarks on the so-called “whistleblower,” a CIA operative whose formal complaint against the president about a July 25 phone call he had with Ukraine formed the basis for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s (D-CA) recent push for impeachment. Trump has called for “consequences” for the whistleblower, who he says “had the facts wrong about the phone call.”

Waters’ “thick skin”

For his part, Velshi told Waters she has “thick skin,” but wondered aloud whether Trump’s criticisms of the congresswoman are as bad as his attacks on the whistleblower.

“He shouldn’t be going after anybody. He’s the president of the United States of America,” Waters said of Trump. “He’s dog-whistling to the white supremacists, the KKK, and the dangerous people. And we have stories about many of those white supremacists who do nothing but practice how they are going to be involved in a civil war and fight against this government.”

She went on: “And this president is irresponsible in so many ways, aside from making us a target of these white supremacists and those who would kill us in a civil war. Some of us would be the first to be killed.”

Velshi then asked Waters if Trump is “endangering people’s safety” with his rhetoric.

“Oh, absolutely,” Waters said. “And the whistleblower is protected by law. And he should not be talking about, he wants to interview them. If he knew anything about law, he wouldn’t be so ignorant as to think that somehow anybody’s going to allow him to interview a whistleblower.”

A taste of her own medicine

Rep. Waters has long been on the extreme end of the anti-Trump #Resistance, but these statements from her go beyond that. Suggesting that the president is subversively calling for extremists to murder her in some hypothetical civil war is a whole new low for Waters — though even she admitted she hasn’t been quiet in her quest to take down Trump.

“I think that most people know me and know what I’ve been doing for the last two years,” Waters said Wednesday. Unfortunately for her, “most people” do know what she’s been up to: trying to get Trump out of the White House at all costs. What a shame.
