There is a lot more at stake in the House impeachment than the presidency of Donald Trump. Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee Lindsey Graham considers this impeachment a danger to the presidency itself and will not treat it as legitimate in the Senate.
The House conducted closed-door hearings and they are moving forward with an unprecedented strictly partisan impeachment based on hearsay – with no crime.
If legitimized, the House’s proceedings against the president would set a precedent that would make it possible to impeach every president just for doing their constitutional duties.
The president has a duty to root corruption out of the government, but the Democrats in the House call this an abuse of power.
The president has the duty to protect his communications with his administration and other governments, but the Democrats call executive privilege “obstruction of Congress.”
If these precedents are set, every president in the future of the nation will be vulnerable to the same treatment that President Trump is receiving. This sustained attack on him has affected the nation and the world as the House continually works to delegitimize this president, leaving our allies and our enemies uncertain what the President of the United States will actually be able to accomplish. That is what really puts our nation at risk.
