Trump: Nancy Pelosi has been ‘taken over by the radical left’

After two-and-a-half years of resisting calls for impeachment from her left flank, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) has caved to the pressure.

Pelosi said on Tuesday that the House will move forward with its impeachment inquiry into President Donald Trump — and now, Trump is firing back at the House speaker for allowing the “radical left” to hijack her party, Breitbart reports.

Pelosi has “lost her way”

The remarks from Trump came during a question-and-answer session with the media on Wednesday ahead of the president’s bilateral meeting with Ukraine leader Volodymyr Zelensky on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

While much of that Q&A was devoted to the so-called “Ukraine scandal” that has gripped Democrats and the media over the last week, Trump was also asked about Pelosi’s move toward impeachment on Tuesday — specifically, whether he’d spoken with her and attempted to forestall such a move.

“Did you ask House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to find a way out of impeachment yesterday?” a reporter asked Trump.

“Not at all. No. Look, she’s lost her way,” Trump responded. “She’s been taken over by the radical left. She may be a radical left herself, but she really has lost her way. I spoke to her about guns yesterday. She didn’t even know what I was talking about. She’s not interested in guns.”

“She’s been taken over”

Asked if the topic of impeachment had come up in their conversation at all, Trump replied: “I’ll tell you what: Nancy Pelosi is not interested in guns and gun protection and gun safety. All she is thinking about is this.”

Indeed, Trump said, “she’s been taken over by the radical left, the whole Democrat Party… And you take a look at what’s happening in the media today. The whole party is taken over by the left.”

Trump went on to note that the incessant talk of impeachment has actually caused his approval numbers to increase.

“But I don’t want it to go up for this reason,” Trump said. “When they look, and when you see what’s happening, people are really angry at Democrats. They’re really angry at the Democrat Party.”

The president concluded by noting that the focus on impeachment means the House will no longer have time to work on things like gun safety legislation, lowering prescription drug prices, or an infrastructure spending package.

“Democrats can’t talk about that because they’ve been taken over by a radical group of people,” Trump said. “And Nancy Pelosi, as far as I’m concerned, unfortunately, she’s no longer the speaker of the House.”
