President Trump formally nominates Jovita Carranza for role of SBA chief

Make sure to let us know what you think... we now have comments turned ON below the article!

When it was revealed in April that former wrestling executive Linda McMahon would be stepping down from her role as the head of the Small Business Association (SBA) to head a pro-Trump super PAC, the president wasted no time in announcing his pick for her replacement: current U.S. Treasurer Jovita Carranza.

Now, President Donald Trump has formally forwarded his choice for the role to the Senate for confirmation, the Wall Street Journal reports.

It’s official!

While Trump’s detractors will never be happy with his nominations, Trump’s pick to head the SBA is clearly qualified.

According to a statement from the White House, Carranza currently serves as a top adviser to Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin in her role as treasurer.

She also previously served as deputy administrator of the SBA under former President George W. Bush.

In that role, she oversaw more than 80 field offices and managed a federal investment and loan portfolio totaling more than $80 billion.

Carranza is also somewhat of an expert in business; she is known for her ascension to executive roles at companies like UPS, where she started more than two decades ago as a “part-time, night-shift box handler” before working her way up to the role of president of operations for UPS Latin America and the Carribean.

Over that same time frame, she helped UPS grow as a major global player in the package delivery service sector.

A strong ally

But Carranza doesn’t just have an impressive resumé.

Politico reported in April that Carranza is also a staunch supporter of President Trump who has been working with him since he was just a presidential hopeful.

During the 2016 election cycle, Carranza served as a member of then-candidate Trump’s National Hispanic Advisory Council.

Carranza was unanimously confirmed to her role at the SBA under Bush — and hopefully, her upcoming confirmation will go just as smoothly so she can put her years of experience to good use helping small businesses across America.
