A famous soccer player in Brazil’s top professional league was just found dead — and the details are disturbing.
Daniel Correa Freitas, 24, was found dead earlier this week “almost decapitated” and “with his genitals cut off,” according to the New York Post.
A 38-year-old businessman named Edison Brittes, Jr. has been charged in Freitas’ murder. Brittes says the soccer star tried to rape his wife Cristiana at their 18-year-old daughter Allana’s birthday party.
Attempt to rape his wife
In an interview with Brasil Urgente on Brazilian TV, Edison Brittes explained that he found the star athlete in a bedroom with his wife wearing only his underwear.
“[Freitas] had gone in, taken his clothes off and locked the door. I knocked on the door to my room and when I opened it, he was on top of my wife and she was screaming and begging for help,” Brittes said.
He continued: “What I did was what any man would do, because the woman that was there was not my wife, she was every woman in Brazil. It could be your daughter, sister, mother or wife. At that moment it was my wife, Cris, who I have been married to for 20 years.”
Brittes added: “When I threw him off my wife, I threw him on the floor and stopped her being raped by that monstrous scumbag.”
Reports from local media claimed that Freitas had messaged at least one friend about his intentions for the “birthday girl’s mum.”
A photo also recently surfaced that showed a smiling Freitas next to an unconscious woman, presumed to be Cristiana.
Rumors of affairs
Despite rumors to the contrary, daughter Allana Brittes has flatly denied that she was ever romantically involved with the athlete. The family has also denied that Brittes’ wife Cristiana had any prior involvement with the deceased.
“The media said a lot of things. My wife never had anything with Daniel, never mind my daughter,” Edison Brittes said.

He went on: “Rumors always get started but the truth will come out. I know I did what I did, I want everybody watching to think what they would do to keep the moral integrity of your family and help a small and fragile woman.”
