Sarah Sanders laughs off Ocasio-Cortez’s climate change alarmism

New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez likened the allegedly changing climate to World War II on Monday and suggested that the planet has only about a dozen years left before it will be destroyed by human activity — but not everybody is buying what she’s selling.

Asked for a response to Ocasio-Cortez’s alarmist rhetoric, White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders dismissed it all with a laugh, saying the Trump administration will place their faith in a “higher power” than the freshman member of Congress when it comes to planetary survival.

Ocasio-Cortez: The sky is falling!

Ocasio-Cortez spoke at an event Monday honoring the late Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr.

She touched on a number of topics, including what she characterized as an impending catastrophe of man-made climate change that is bound to strike — unless we significantly raise taxes and destroy our nation’s flourishing energy sector.

The congresswoman also compared Americans’ struggle against climate change to that of World War II.

“Millennials and people, you know, Gen-Z, and all these folks that will come after us are looking up and we’re like: ‘The world is [going to] end in 12 years if we don’t address climate change, and your biggest issue is, how are we gonna pay for it?'” she said.

Unsurprisingly, the representative’s bombastic fear-mongering wasn’t taken particularly seriously by too many people, including the Trump White House.

Leave it in God’s hands

During an interview with Fox News host Sean Hannity on Tuesday, Sanders dismissed Ocasio-Cortez’s remarks and implied that the White House would trust in God when it came to such matters — not the socialistic representative from New York City.

Asked for the official White House position, Sanders replied with a chuckle.

“I don’t think we’re going to listen to [Ocasio-Cortez] on much of anything — particularly not on matters we’re [going to] leave in the hands of a much, much higher authority — and certainly, not listen to the freshman congresswoman on when the world may end,” the press secretary said.

“We’re focused on what’s happening in the world right now,” Sanders continued. “We wish that Democrats like herself would engage in that conversation, help us fix some of the current problems we know exist, and work with us to get some things done — particularly on the border, fixing the national and humanitarian crisis.”

“That’s the kind of stuff we’re focused on, not things we’re gonna leave up to the hands of something and someone much more powerful than any of us,” she added.

Looks like the Trump administration won’t be heeding Ocasio-Cortez’s warnings.
