Pelosi angry about Trump’s ‘sneak peek’ at Mueller report, despite demanding same for Clinton in 1998

Make sure to let us know what you think... we now have comments turned ON below the article!

Prominent Democrats have exposed their self-serving hypocrisy once again in the aftermath of the release of the Mueller report that essentially cleared President Donald Trump of allegations that he conspired and coordinated with Russians during the 2016 election.

Led by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Dems have expressed outrage at reports that President Trump was granted an opportunity to review the report prior to its public release — but a recently resurfaced video shows that Pelosi sang a different tune in 1998, when the situation was reversed and a Democrat president was the subject of a lengthy investigative report.

Pelosi assails Trump’s early look at Mueller report

Pelosi took to Twitter to register her disapproval that Attorney General William Barr granted the Trump White House a “sneak preview” of the Mueller report ahead of its release and demanded Mueller testify in front of Congress.

Pelosi tweeted, “AG Barr has confirmed the staggering partisan effort by the Trump Admin to spin public’s view of the #MuellerReport – complete with acknowledgment that the Trump team received a sneak preview. It’s more urgent than ever that Special Counsel Mueller testify before Congress.”

Argued for Clinton preview of Starr report

But back in 1998, as the Starr report targeting then-Democrat President Bill Clinton was about to be released, Pelosi took to the House floor to argue that the White House should have been afforded the opportunity to review that report against the president prior to the public, or even Congress, being allowed to read it.

During that speech, Pelosi referenced a House Ethics Committee investigation against then-Republican Speaker Newt Gingrich and noted that Gingrich had been allowed to respond to a report against himself prior to its release.

“Mr. Speaker, for seven of the eleven years that I have served in Congress, I have served on the Ethics Committee or the ethics task force. It is from that perspective that I have several questions to ask,” Pelosi said.

She went on: “If indeed what we are talking about here today is the process under which the Starr report will be released, why then have the airwaves been filled with details of the Starr report for the last 36 hours? It has supposedly been under lock and key here. One can only assume the leaks are coming from the independent counsel’s office.”

She continued: “My second question is to you, Mr. Speaker: Why would you not afford the President of the United States the same opportunity you were given by the Ethics Committee of having almost a week’s advance notice to review the charges against you, and so that you could have your response be part of the report?”

Not alone in glaring double standard

Notably, Pelosi also asserted that Clinton had been exonerated because there were no criminal allegations against him in the Starr report, only discussions of what were essentially personal matters. She declared that our nation’s founders would be disappointed at the partisan investigation of a sitting president that threatened the very foundations of the nation.

Sadly, the speaker is not the only Democrat applying a different set of rules to President Trump than they felt were appropriate for Bill Clinton two decades ago. Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) made strenuous objections to any redactions being made to the Mueller report, despite arguing the opposite in 1998, suggesting then that certain details of the Starr report needed to be shielded from public view “as a matter of decency.”

My, oh my, how things have changed over the past 20 years, yet remained so much the same. Democrats were self-serving hypocrites then, just as they are now.
