Report: Michael Cohen could soon face arrest, abandonment by attorneys

President Donald Trump’s former personal attorney Michael Cohen saw his home, office, and hotel room raided by federal agents in April in what was described by some as a politically-motivated investigation to try and find dirt on President Donald Trump.

But it appears the building pressure on Cohen may be having an impact. The media is now reporting that Cohen may soon be indicted and arrested — and could cooperate with investigators as his own attorneys abandon him.

Abandoned by attorneys?

Citing the typical anonymous sources, ABC reported on Monday that Cohen’s personal attorneys are about to leave his case, a development that would likely cause him to cooperate fully with investigators and prosecutors going forward.

Those attorneys are Todd Harrison and Stephen Ryan of the McDermott, Will and Emery LLP law firm, who have been working overtime to review nearly 4 million documents seized by federal agents for any that should be withheld by virtue of attorney-client privilege ahead of an absurd completion date set for Friday.

The supposed reason for the alleged abandonment of Cohen by his attorneys is a purported dispute over fees.

The attorneys declined to comment on the report and no replacements have been named as of yet, but the anonymous sources were certain this would occur and that Cohen would cooperate with federal prosecutors, which, in their view, would be bad news for President Trump.

More unverified reports

That report came just one day after the New York Daily News, also citing unnamed sources, reported that Cohen is supposedly living in fear that he could be indicted and arrested any day now.

Their source indicated that Cohen could face charges related to bank fraud, wire fraud, and violations of campaign finance laws.

Cohen declined to comment for the Daily News article, but had told Vanity Fair, who had reported the same thing earlier: “Your alleged source is wrong.”

It is worth noting that none of the potential crimes Cohen could be charged with have anything to do with alleged Russian collusion or interference in the 2016 election, which was the basis of the Robert Mueller special counsel investigation that referred Cohen’s case to the New York prosecutors.

It remains to be seen if these anonymous sources are correct in that Cohen will soon be arrested and charged with crimes, and subsequently abandoned by his personal attorneys.

It further remains to be seen how Cohen cooperating with prosecutors on charges unrelated to Trump could pose a danger to the president. We’ll all just have to wait and see what the mainstream media comes up with.
