Pelosi, Schumer accuse McConnell of turning Senate into ‘legislative graveyard’ for progressive policies

Make sure to let us know what you think... we now have comments turned ON below the article!

Both Democrat House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer are reading off the same set of prepared talking points once again, this time in reference to the manner in which Republican Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is managing the deliberative legislative body.

Pelosi and Schumer have both accused McConnell of overseeing the “legislative graveyard” that is the current Senate, remarks that came in response to McConnell dubbing himself the “Grim Reaper” of progressive leftist policies.

The “Grim Reaper” of progressive legislation

The Hill reported on Monday that McConnell, speaking to supporters in Kentucky about some of the recent far-left proposals offered up by Democrats, made it clear those progressive policies had no chance of being passed either before or after the 2020 election, provided he maintained control of the Senate, no matter who controlled the House or presidency.

“If I’m still the majority leader in the Senate, think of me as the Grim Reaper. None of that stuff is going to pass,” McConnell said. “I guarantee you that if I’m the last man standing and I’m still the majority leader, it ain’t happening. I can promise you.”

Of course, that declaration didn’t sit particularly well with the Democratic leaders who are attempting to push through progressive and socialistic policies championed by the left, and they let their outrage over McConnell’s partisan obstinence be known, completely oblivious to their own history of partisan intransigence.

“Legislative graveyard”

Pelosi lashed out at McConnell first on Friday with a sort of open letter that demanded the Senate leader take action on a number of bills that had been passed by the Democratic-controlled House but were stalled in the Senate.

“The Republican Senate needs to wake up, and vote on these urgently needed bills immediately,” wrote Pelosi. “If they don’t like our bipartisan bills, then they can pass their own version and we can go to conference.”

“Leader McConnell has declared himself the ‘grim reaper’ of these House bills to make progress for working families. We will show him that these bills are alive and well with the American people. The middle class and America don’t want the Senate to be a legislative graveyard for so many of these important issues — they want action,” Pelosi added.

Schumer follows Pelosi’s lead…as usual

Likely taking his cue from Pelosi, Schumer also accused McConnell of turning the Senate into a “legislative graveyard” in a statement released on Friday.

“Leader McConnell ought to allow debate and amendments immediately — which Democrats would welcome — on commonsense, House-passed bills on democracy reform, combating the gun violence epidemic, health care, and so much more,” Schumer said, adding that “the Senate must once again become a legislative body that helps the American people, not a graveyard.”

“The self-proclaimed ‘grim reaper,’ Leader McConnell has turned the Senate into a legislative graveyard that hurts the Senate, hurts the middle class, and hurts the country,” Schumer said.

Tables have turned

Schumer and Pelosi can complain all they want about McConnell’s inaction when it comes to Democratic legislation, but the reality is that McConnell is merely giving Democrats a taste of their own medicine.

That nasty tonic was originally foisted upon a GOP-controlled House by a Democrat-controlled Senate led by former Nevada Sen. Harry Reid, who for many years steadfastly refused to take action on any Republican-passed legislation while he was at the helm.

What’s good for the goose is good for the gander, but once again, Democrats would rather whine, complain and display their utterly duplicitous hypocrisy when forced to play by their own set of rules.
