Herd immunity: is it the only answer?

Make sure to let us know what you think... we now have comments turned ON below the article!

Recently, Dr. Fauci commented on the idea of “herd immunity” in a press conference, saying he hoped that not enough people would be infected to develop herd immunity.

That sounds sympathetic, but is he really adhering to the science of SARS outbreaks when he says that? Professor Knut Wittkowski provides an alternative view of the coronavirus pandemic from a scientific perspective.

Wittkowski, an epidemiologist, with a specialty in biometric statistics, points out in the interview that this is not the first SARS virus nor will it be the last. Because there have been SARS outbreaks in the past, epidemiologists can predict from past data and patterns how a virus behaves and how it can be eradicated. He advocates, based on the data from previous SARS virus outbreaks, that herd immunity is the only way to stop a virus.

Unfortunately, we are doing the exact opposite of that.

Addressing “social distancing,” Wittkowski predicted that “we will see more death because of this social distancing…”

The gist of Professor Wittkowski’s message is:

With all respiratory diseases, the only thing that stops the disease is herd immunity. About 80% of the people need to have had contact with the virus, and the majority of them won’t even have recognized that they were infected, or they had very, very mild symptoms, especially if they are children. So, it’s very important to keep the schools open and kids mingling to spread the virus to get herd immunity as fast as possible, and then the elderly people, who should be separated, and the nursing homes should be closed during that time, can come back and meet their children and grandchildren after about 4 weeks when the virus has been exterminated….

Wittkowski also said, “Respiratory diseases, including the 2003 SARS epidemic, remain only about two months in any given population, although peak incidence and lethality can vary.” But governors and people like Dr. Fauci are talking about many months, not two.

According to Wittkowsi: “If the government hadn’t interfered, the epidemic would be over.”

  10. I have realized that over the course of developing a relationship with real estate entrepreneurs, you’ll be able to get them to understand that, in most real estate transaction, a percentage is paid. Eventually, FSBO sellers will not “save” the payment. Rather, they fight to earn the commission by doing a good agent’s occupation. In doing so, they commit their money and time to perform, as best they could, the jobs of an representative. Those tasks include revealing the home by way of marketing, introducing the home to buyers, constructing a sense of buyer desperation in order to make prompt an offer, organizing home inspections, taking on qualification checks with the lender, supervising maintenance tasks, and facilitating the closing.
