Greg Pence, brother of Vice President Mike Pence, wins Indiana’s Sixth District

Though the vote tabulations have yet to be finalized, it appears the 2018 midterm elections were something of a mixed bag for Republicans and President Donald Trump — the GOP actually increased their majority in the Senate but lost control of the House to the Democrats.

But while Republicans may have lost several seats in the House, there was one victory in the House that was likely extra special to the Trump administration — Indiana’s Sixth District — which was won overwhelmingly by Greg Pence, brother of Vice President Mike Pence.

The Washington Post reported Wednesday morning that, as of about 85 percent of precincts reporting, Pence had won more than 63 percent of the vote as compared to the 33 percent of the vote won by his Democratic opponent, Jeannine Lake.

The seat had been held by outgoing Republican Rep. Luke Messer, who’d represented the district since 2013.

Trump won the district in 2016 by about 40 points.

Congrats from the VP

Vice President Pence congratulated his older brother Greg on Twitter Tuesday night and tweeted, “Congrats to my brother @GregPenceIN on being elected to serve in the US Congress.”

“Greg served our country admirably in uniform & will do the same in Washington DC. I am so proud & look forward to working w/ him to advance @RealDonaldTrump’s agenda for America & the Hoosier State!” he added.

The VP’s old House seat

The seat won by Greg Pence was the same seat that had been held for a dozen years previously by his brother Mike — from 2000 to 2012 — before he was elected governor of Indiana.

The vice president’s brother made no secret of the fact that he is a “staunch supporter” of President Donald Trump’s MAGA agenda during the campaign, and made it clear that he was looking forward to working with the administration to further that agenda from his position in the House.

On his campaign website, Greg Pence stated, “My priorities will always be creating jobs, growing the economy, protecting our borders, and providing for our fighting men and women — both during and after their service.”

The president may have lost party control over the House, but not by very much, and there are still plenty of Republicans in important districts who will do what they can in the minority to support the Trump administration’s agenda.

It remains to be seen how often the Pence brothers will be getting together for lunch in Washington D.C. over the next two years.
