Trey Gowdy says he will apologize to Comey ‘when it snows in hell’

James Comey won’t be getting an apology from former congressman Trey Gowdy.

Gowdy, a former Republican congressman, was asked on Fox News’ Hannity about whether Comey would get an apology after the Justice Department declined to prosecute the former FBI director, according to the Daily Caller.

Gowdy pointed out that Comey had not been cleared of wrongdoing by the report — he simply wasn’t going to be prosecuted for what he had done. “You should aspire to more in life than simply skating by without having been indicted,” Gowdy said, directing his comment at Comey.

“I’m certainly not going to apologize to anyone who violated FBI and Department of Justice policy, who violated an employment agreement, who shared sensitive information about an ongoing investigation, who sent classified information to an unauthorized person and then had amnesia when the FBI came to his home to try to retrieve government property,” Gowdy said.

Comey Wants Apology

In the wake of Inspector General Michael Horowitz’s report, Comey indicated in a tweet that apologies “would be nice.” Comey failed to mention that Horowitz’s report did rebuke him for violating his employment agreement with the FBI as well as various other policies.

In fact, Comey was criminally referred to the Justice Department for his actions, but the DOJ declined to prosecute him on the grounds given in the report. Nowhere in the report does it say that Comey did nothing wrong.

In fact, the opposite is true.

Gowdy on Point

Gowdy called Comey a “two-time offender” and pointed out that Inspector General Michael Horowitz had also dressed Comey down for his treatment of the Hillary Clinton email scandal.

When Chaffetz pressed Gowdy about whether he would apologize, he said, “What temperature is it in hell right now? Is it snowing?”

Keep in mind we haven’t even seen IG Horowitz’s report about his investigation into how the Mueller investigation got started.

There may very well be other incriminating information contained in that report. It’s not over yet for James Comey.
