Republican businessman announces bid to unseat Rep. Ilhan Omar in 2020

Make sure to let us know what you think... we now have comments turned ON below the article!

Ever since Democrat Ilhan Omar was elected to represent Minnesota’s 5th Congressional District in Washington, D.C., she has been the center of controversy due to repeated instances of anti-Semitism, an obvious hatred for Israel, her over-the-top opposition to President Donald Trump, and, of course, lingering questions about her family and marital history.

There is a chance that all of that notoriety may be short-lived, however, as a handful of conservative and independent candidates have already stepped forward to challenge Omar for her seat in Congress, with a black Republican businessman named Lacy Johnson being the latest candidate to emerge.

Lacy Johnson to challenge Ilhan Omar

Johnson formally launched his campaign to oust Omar from Congress in 2020 and replace her with a more conservative, pro-America legislator with a brief campaign video posted to Twitter on August 14.

The spot allowed Johnson to introduce himself and describe some of his core beliefs.

He explained that he was born and raised in Mississippi as part of a large and relatively poor family, but while there may not have been much money growing up in the Johnson household, he believed he was blessed with the “richness of God, good people, good food, good music, and a good heart.”

Johnson has lived in Minneapolis for 40 years, has a wife and two sons and said in the video, “I believe the family is the basic building block of any strong and productive society.”

“Impatient” with Omar

“I am not a politician. I’ve had a 40-year career as a computer technologist, businessman, and entrepreneur,” Lacy said. “I believe in serving God by helping people. A good leader is, first and foremost, a good servant.”

“I believe that I am responsible for providing for and supporting my family — not government or anyone else,” he continued. “I believe that goal-setting, hard work, discipline, making good choices, attitude, and just plain old tenacity largely determine our accomplishments in life. Roadblocks are no excuses to fail or not even try.”

“I’m impatient with Ms. Omar, who focuses on the past of America in a negative way, who shows and speaks with such disrespect for our country, refusing to acknowledge the tremendous progress we’ve made since our founding,” Johnson said.

Reagan-esque vision

Johnson’s vision for the district and indeed the entire country is one in which everybody can meet their full potential through an expectation of “individual responsibility and accountability.”

He said:

Our future is bright, even brighter with a reduced dependency on government. I believe in the Reagan view that the role of government is to do things for people which they cannot do for themselves, that government does not solve problems — it subsidizes them. For evidence, look at Baltimore or any place where socialist Democrats have been in control for years.

“We need someone in Congress who looks after the interests of our own district, not Ms. Omar, who’s more concerned with being a self-promoting, anti-President Trump national celebrity,” Johnson concluded. “It is time we send Ms. Omar packing, along with her pro-socialist, pro-open borders, anti-Israel, anti-Second Amendment, anti-personal freedom” agenda.
