Ever since Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy announced his retirement, Americans across the political spectrum have watched closely to see who President Donald Trump would nominate to fill that vacant seat on the high court.

The much-anticipated announcement from Trump came during prime time on Monday evening when the president revealed that he had chosen Judge Brett Kavanaugh to succeed Kennedy on the Supreme Court.

Judge Kavanaugh has spent the past dozen years sitting on the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals where he has authored a tremendous number of consequential opinions, both in favor and in dissent of various rulings.

According to a piece in National Review written by a former law clerk of Kavanaugh named Sarah Pitlyk, the judge is a solid social conservative with great reverence for the Constitution who bases his rulings on an originalist and textualist philosophy of jurisprudence.

Kavanaugh has consistently ruled in favor of protecting religious liberties and enforcing restrictions on abortion rights, two major issues of great importance to most conservatives.

The judge has also ruled against and written opinions in dissent of favorable rulings for various aspects of the Obamacare health care industry takeover.

Some of the opinions written by Kavanaugh have even been adopted by the Supreme Court and other lower courts.

According to Breitbart, Judge Kavanaugh also appears to be in line with President Trump’s “America First” agenda, at least with regard to the issues of illegal immigration and protecting American companies and workers from undue foreign competition.

That would include authoring opinions which declared that illegal immigrants shouldn’t be counted as lawful employees in the United States, that multi-national corporations don’t have a right to import foreign workers over American workers and that it is in the interest of the U.S. to support and defend American industries.

Furthermore, the libertarian-leaning outlet Reason noted that Kavanaugh is considered a friend of the Second Amendment, having written opinions in dissent of D.C. court rulings that upheld an “assault weapons ban” and firearms registry in D.C., which Kavanaugh held were unconstitutional.

Brett Kavanaugh appears to have been an excellent choice by President Trump to serve on the Supreme Court, and hopefully the Senate will not waste time in holding hearings and ultimately confirming Kavanaugh to take up his seat on the high court’s bench.
